Repository guidelines (AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md)

CodeOtter detects AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md in each repository and enforces them at the merge gate.

Spot-checking AI agents at the merge gate

Every repository onboarded in CodeOtter is checked at its root, through its forge API, for AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md.

  • Zero configuration: when either file (or both) exists, its guidelines are added to the review context.
  • Enforced at the merge gate: violations of architecture conventions, file structure or coding guidelines fail the Repository guidelines gate.
  • Per-repository control: turn guideline enforcement on or off per repository with Repository settings → Review guidelines.

Guidelines apply to reviews, PR tools and the CLI. Combine them with team learnings to capture rules that are not written down yet.
